Denis Chang’s Chambers was set up in 1978 and was initially located in Prince’s Building.
In 1985, Chambers relocated to Wheelock House at Pedder Street and in 1991, Chambers moved to Pacific Place.
After 27 years in Pacific Place, members resolved to take on a larger home occupying the whole of the 9th Floor of One Lippo Centre (for the Main Set) and a lease was signed giving us security of tenure for the coming 9 years until 2027, and to also take up half of the 43th Floor as an Annex.
Throughout the years, Chambers has been a nurturing ground for not only barristers but also academics, magistrates and judges.
We now occupy a gross area of about 20,000 square feet which is at least 50% larger than our old premises. Chambers now has 44 members. We have 5 Senior Counsel, including Hong Kong’s only academic silk.
The move brings with it the opportunity to create a new, architect-designed interior fit-out. Our tailor-made new premises include an expanded client suite capable of hosting seminars of up to 100 persons, for the benefit of our clients and members of the profession.
The much-needed additional space will also allow Chambers to implement progressive reforms which we have termed the “Catalyst” programme, designed to support our current and future junior barristers:
1. We now have a 500 sq ft “incubator area” for up to 8 starter tenants where they will pay subsidized rent.
2. Together with the incubator area, Chambers will now reserve space to accommodate new juniors, with a view to realistically increasing the chances of those pupils who meet Chambers’ standards of excellence in intellectual ability, advocacy and professional ethics to be admitted as tenants.
3. Apart from hardware, chambers will implement an internal understudy programme to provide structured opportunities for junior members to be led by senior members and to be exposed to major cases and knowledge sharing.
These measures among others will ensure that Chambers continues to attract and nurture the very top talent.
The move to the new premises took place in December 2018 and our members and staff look forward to welcoming you to our new home.
